Pensees.

un — Mixed feelings on GM’s Volt project. Want their electric car to succeed so the people living in Detroit can have jobs other than working the dogfights. But don’t want the GM execs to succeed because they don’t deserve it — certainly not on the back of the electric car industry.

deux — One-point-five times ten to the ninth power to keep in mind about China’s phenomenal performances in the Olympics — they’ve got 1.5 billion people to pick from.

trois — Highway safety has not been enhanced by California’s requirement that hands free listening devices must be used if phoning while driving. Holding a phone up to your ear isn’t the problem — dialing out is. Poking at those little buttons in your lap seriously degrades your driving chops. Maybe we can get to work on a law that says no phoning, period.

quatro? No phoning! No phoning at all. And no conversing with others even if they are actually IN the car. No waving to friends out the window or flipping off bad drivers. No changing the radio station, or adjusting the volume or skipping forward to your favorite song on the CD-player either. If it was on when you started the car, that’s the way it stays. Singing along is just another distraction and should also be outlawed. Second offenses of cigarette smoking or nose picking should require mandatory traffic school and a public apology.
    We need more laws.
